Traditional 3 tab shingles made with asphalt composite are the most popular type of shingle and are the most flexible in terms of adapting to many roof pitches. That way water flows from the shingles onto the flange and continuing to flow down slope it flows back on the shingles. As well a slope of 4 12 is most commonly considered the lowest slope for standard shingle installations. It not only protects the roof but it also protects the fascia.

The roofing materials most often used for these pitches include asphalt composite shingles. The acceptable underlayment installation options for low slopes are described in the canadian standards association asphalt shingle application standard csa a123 51 as follows. These shingles are appropriate for pitches as low as 4 12 pitch all the way up to a 12 12 pitch. But other than that a higher roof slope is much better for the shingles.

Drip edge or drip cap is either plastic or sheet metal. Then apply standard asphalt shingles over the membrane. I have to say having a low roof slope sure makes it more comfortable to install the shingles. The cabo one and two family dwelling code permits the installation of asphalt shingles on roofs with a slope as low as 2 12 if the shingles are double coverage self sealing versions.

What are gaf asphalt shingles. Shingles that are not self sealing must be hand sealed with asphalt roofing cement. Gaf asphalt shingles combined with the proper underlayment make ideal low slope roof shingles that do an excellent job of preventing water build up and leaking. Install roll roofing when the temperature is at least 50 degrees fahrenheit to keep the material from cracking.
